The LAP-BAND AP® System is a safe, effective, and well-established surgical option for severely obese patients.


Over 600,000 LAP-BAND® System devices have been sold worldwide, with data supported by more than 1,850 publications and references with up to 16 years of follow-up 1.


Data from scientific publications supporting the benefits of the LAP-BAND® System demonstrate that:

  • LAP-BAND® System patients on average achieve weight loss comparable to gastric bypass surgery from three years after surgery.2
  • The LAP-BAND® System has a perioperative severe complication rate reported as low as 1/10th the major complication rate of gastric bypass (0.2% vs. 2%) 3
  • Band leaks attributable to crease-fold failure have not been reported.4
