The LAP-BAND® System is an important tool in the battle against obesity
Obesity has become a major health issue and is becoming more and more common. It is estimated that by 2012, nearly half of the American population will be overweight or obese (BMI > 25 kg/m2).
The LAP-BAND® System is designed to help severely obese people lose weight. The procedure is performed laparoscopicallly by surgeons with advanced laparoscopic skills and takes as little as 30-60 minutes to complete, but will vary for each individual. A LAP-BAND® patient is often able to return home the day after their surgery. Adjustments to the LAP-BAND® are performed at 6 weeks after surgery and can be continued as needed.
