Band Adjustment: Following Up for Successful Outcomes

Each LAP-BAND® System patient is striving to reach a point of prolonged satiety and satisfactory weight loss or weight maintenance. The key to good clinical results with the LAP-BAND AP™ System is to find the ideal fill volume that helps each patient achieve these goals.

The LAP-BAND® System is easily adjusted. A tube to the access port on the abdomen connects the inflatable inner surface of the inserted LAP-BAND®. This facilitates post-operative adjustment of the band - by injecting or aspirating saline - to change stoma size without additional surgeries. This allows you to evaluate your patient's progress and decide how to modify the degree of restriction for optimal weight loss.

The process of adding or removing saline - called a LAP-BAND® System adjustment - requires only a few minutes, but helps ensure long term successful outcomes.

The LAP-BAND® System Adjustment Kit contains everything needed to perform a band adjustment. Each kit contains the following sterile, single-use items:

  • Non-pyrogenic, isotonic 0.9% saline in a pre-filled syringe
  • Access port needle (Huber-type, straight, non-coring 20-gauge x 2" needle)
  • One-way stopcock with swivel luer lock connector
  • Alcohol pad
  • Adhesive bandage
  • Exam gloves (latex-free)

Each kit also contains patient education materials.
